Our building’s roots go back generations, but our own family story here started in 1986. That was the year Rusty bought the cafe. Originally, he just wanted a small spot to go along with our local grocery store and meat plant. The plan was for Rusty's aunt to show up and teach Tacy how to run a kitchen.
Well, plans change. His aunt never showed up, leaving Tacy to figure out the ropes entirely on her own. It was a true trial by fire, but she learned how to run this kitchen from scratch. Today, we are still family owned and operated, keeping those same independent Texas traditions alive.
When we say local, we really mean it. Rusty and Tacy also run the Redden Ranch, or the 3R Ranch as a lot of folks know it. We raise our own livestock right here in the area, and every single bit of the beef and lamb we serve at the cafe comes straight from our family ranch. We know exactly where it comes from and how it was raised, so you get the best quality Texas meat in every single bite.
We are not a big corporation, we are just a family that loves our community. From our kitchen crew to our friends sitting at the tables, we treat everyone who walks through the door like they are part of the family.
If our dining room looks a bit familiar when you walk in, you might have caught us at the movies. The cafe was used as a central filming location for the 2011 movie Seven Days in Utopia, starring Robert Duvall and Lucas Black.
We had a wonderful time hosting the cast and crew, and we kept a piece of that memory with us. Come take a look at the movie posters and behind the scenes photos lining our walls while you wait for your food.
We love serving up hearty meals that keep you full all day. If you come for breakfast, you better bring an appetite because our famous hot cakes are so big they literally cover the whole plate, you will not even see the edges.
For lunch or dinner, you have to try what put us on the map, our famous lamb sliders. And whatever you do, make sure to save room for dessert. Our legendary, piled high meringue pies and classic buttermilk pies are made the old fashioned way right here in the kitchen.
